The arrival
Where I am now 🧭
Well, after creating my North Wales map with Atlas. I found my new home in the Shropshire countryside, not just any abode either but a garret! (I learnt this word the other day) a garret is *A top-floor attic, often associated with artists. It’s located on a huge farm land with chickens, sheep and lots of peace and trees. Just what I need to recalibrate and come back to myself without all the outside noise.
The final fern(s)🌿
I’ve completed my map. The 8-metre concertina sketchbook is finally finished, after beginning this worldwide journey last August. It ends with a fern I found in the undergrowth of the forest, after carefully uprooting I found a fern called the ‘Carthusian’ fern, linked to the Carthusian monks, who devote their lives to silence and discipline. It feels fitting — perhaps a reflection of the chapter I’m now entering (at least for the summer).
The final section of the map took several attempts — three in total. What emerged is a layered piece that brings together this new fern with echoes of all the ferns that came before it. A kind of time-mapping. Deep time, held within ferns.
I’ll include part of the process here from my previous blog post with Atlas, alongside two other ferns. One was the Common Polypody, vernacular meaning is the ‘Goldilocks’ fern — which feels apt, considering I was searching for places to live. Some options felt too extreme: from staying deep in the woods in a beautiful but isolated shack, to other environments that were too cramped. After this came the Dilatata fern meaning "widened," "expanded," or "spread out", this was during the same time when I was meeting new people, learning lessons and transforming my experience into art (you can read more about this specific pink print collage on my Instagram).
Alongside the search for a physical home, there’s also been a search for community. A new wave of socialising, of trying to find where I fit within this place. That part is still unfolding…
Art shop Launch🏪
In the meantime, I’ve launched my art print shop on my website, where you can now purchase selected pieces from my maps.
I’ll soon be working with a local printer to expand the range, so if you’re interested in owning a print, feel free to reach out.
Prints currently range from £35–£85, depending on size and framing.
P.S I’ll be starting my next map soon 👀
